After talking with youth across the Eastern Townships, Townshippers’ Association is moving towards creating a Youth Council in 2009, but we want YOU to tell us what this council should look like, how it should run and what it should do. 

We are currently looking for volunteers who want to participate in a work group to determine this ‘vision’ and we are planning a retreat for this work group in January 2009.  During this retreat, the work group will create a proposal for the structure, mandate and recruitment strategies they think the youth council should use.  Their proposal will then be presented to the Townshippers’ Association Board of Directors for approval…  Are you interested?

If this all sounds kind of scary to you, or if you are hesitant to give up your time for this, all I can say is, don’t worry!  We’ll make sure the process is fun AND, at the same time, your contribution will be publicly recognized by the Association.  You will get something in return for your efforts…

What it is… and How YOU can help!

What is the Community Search Conference?
To start with, on a personal level, ask yourself: 

• Where do I see myself in 5 years? 
• In 5 years, what does my life look like? 
• Where do I live and WHY do I want to live there?
• What do I need to do to accomplish these goals?

Your answers to these questions will affect the way you live and act – essentially, what you do – over the next five years, right?

In a similar way, the Community Search Conference process will address questions such as these, but on a much larger scale… the English-speaking community in the Eastern Townships as a whole.  Members of the community will gather together to plan the future of the community. Then they will work together to accomplish the goals they set out during the meeting.

How can YOU help us?
We are asking you to recommend a maximum of three people who YOU think would be excellent candidates to take part in this very important (and exciting!) process…that’s all!

Who should you nominate?
In the Community Search Conference process, every single person counts… your mom or dad, brother or sister, best friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, teacher… even you! We are looking for people from all age groups and all walks of life who are interested in the future of the English-speaking community of the Eastern Townships.

If you don’t know or want to give someone else’s personal/contact information, don’t worry… just tell us their name and the town where they live.  Because we will usually contact people who have been recommended to us more than once, we will most likely be able to get in touch with that person.

This process only takes a few minutes of your time, but the more people who participate in it, the greater the overall impact the Search Conference will have on our community… this is a perfect chance for you to make YOUR voice heard, so don’t miss out!
